The Declaration of Nutrition Independence

Today I wanted to do something a little different on the blog, in honor of Independence Day here in the United States. The Internet is full of manifestos and mission statements, but why not set out to create our very own Declaration of Nutrition Independence? Something that can be both an ode to our Founding Fathers, but a set of beliefs and ideals that we aspire to for all of our members?

Well, what you read below is the Stronger U Declaration of Nutrition Independence. I may not be a Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, or even a Livingston. But it was a lot of fun to put together, and I hope you enjoy it.

When in the course of human history it becomes apparent that people need help losing weight, we Stronger U, commit to going to the ends of heaven and Earth in order to help make that happen for each and every person we work with.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these people have a right to eat the foods they love without fear, worry, or stress. That all people should understand how to account for the foods they eat on a daily basis, learn what foods properly fuel them and make them feel good.

More to that point, we believe that each and every man, woman, and child should be able to walk into a grocery store with the full knowledge and confidence that they can buy any food they like and make it fit within their diet. Because they also know that using whole and minimally processed foods like fruits, vegetables, and lean protein should make up the bulk of their dietary intake.

We believe that when a new diet program or food marketing campaign promises miracles that the members of Stronger U should be knowledgeable enough to look at the fine print and recognize when they’re being sold a half-truth.

We believe that each and every member of Stronger U should not have to fall victim to the peer pressures of family, friends, and environmental stressors that cause them to eat more than they want to and be unhappy. Instead, opting to help our members find the strength and resolve to learn to take control of their lives and eat what they want, when they want.

We believe that whenever any form of diet becomes destructive of social life, health, happiness, or sanity, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it. To do away with it because they realize that what matters to them is their ability to follow something for a lifetime.

Above all else, we believe that every person walking the Earth should have the chance to improve their health and wellness, should they so choose. And we believe that it is our jobs as stewards of sustainability to provide a positive, supportive, and uplifting environment to anyone that does choose to improve their health and wellness.
