This week our Stronger U Member Spotlight is featuring Jeff Boord, who worked with Coach Matt Dustin.
What’s your name? (First and last names, pretty please)
Jeff Boord
Tell us a little about you in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life that you want to share?
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area with my wife and 2 young kids. I am really active in the outdoors specifically I love to hike (with my dogs and family). I also spend a lot of time in the mountains around Lake Tahoe and Yosemite skiing.
What led you to join Stronger U?
Every year my New Years resolution is to workout more and eat better. I thought my nutrition was “ok” but didn’t really know the first thing about it. I heard on one of my Peloton riding communities that a lot of people were doing Stronger U so I checked it out.
What dieting experience have you had previous to Stronger U? Was there a reason you were or were not successful? Why did you stop?
Tried many different things including: juice cleanses, low carb, keto, even Nutrisystem. These were all temporary ways of eating for me and as soon as I stopped would go right back to my known habits for eating
It’s clear Stronger U worked for you. Why do you think Stronger U worked so well when other programs or diets may have not?
I think Stronger U worked so well for me because it is a shift in thinking about how I approach nutrition. Because I plan and track everything, I am eating to fuel my body for my activities and doing less social eating (dinners out). I also see my daily macros as a puzzle and everyday its a challenge to make them fit. When it fits or its close its a real sense of accomplishment.
Can you give some insight on your eating habits BEFORE joining Stronger U?
Never ate breakfast, Pizza every Friday, Take out a few times a week all topped off with beer.
Now that you’ve joined Stronger U, how have your eating habits changed?
I stopped drinking all alcohol. It turns out I don’t ever miss it at all. I have also focused on hitting my numbers and fueling for my next activity or workout so not every meal is an experience. I tend to eat more whole single macro foods (chicken, turkey, vegetables) and fewer sandwiches or combinations like that.
If you exercise or train for a sport, what does a typical week look like? Did Stronger U have any impact in your decision to start exercising or training for a sport?
My main source of exercise is using my Peloton at home. My goal is to work out more days in a week than not which typically means 5 -6 days a week. I also like to throw in live classes at the gym about once a week.
How much weight did you lose with Stronger U?
51lbs so far!
How did your waist measurements change with Stronger U?
I lost 10.5 inches around my waist and even more pants sizes!
What were 3 major non-scale victories you experienced with Stronger U?
Better sleep, Harder workouts (not carrying as much weight around so I can push harder), and my new clothes fit better.
Has your change in body weight or composition improved other areas of your life? If so, explain what areas and how.
I do a fair amount of public speaking for work and I find that when I am in front of a crowd I have a lot more confidence. I feel more comfortable in my presence in the room and just overall how I appear to everyone
Are there any tips or advice you’d give to new members of Stronger U to help them succeed early on?
Don’t try to fool yourself, your coach or anyone. Be honest, you will make mistakes, learn from them and keep trying new things. Drink your water, when you think you drank enough for the day drink more.
If someone is thinking about joining Stronger U, what would you tell them?
Commit to hitting your goals, the sacrifices are temporary but the change will last forever.
