Tell us a little bit about yourself!:

I am 53 years old and have 4 children and 1 granddaughter. My husband David and I enjoy taking trips and spending time outdoors.

What did your life look like before Stronger U?:

I have tried many diets in my life and was overweight most of my adult life. I considered myself active. I ran (slowly), but I felt I was healthy since I ate healthily and exercised regularly. I considered myself a moderate drinker, enjoying wine socially. Although I thought I was healthy, I knew I was overweight. In 2021 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and the doctor told me I had to start medication. I knew it was due to my weight and eating habits, so I asked if I could lose some weight before resorting to medication. She agreed and said she would check in every three months. I belong to many FB groups for Peloton, and someone recommended Stronger U. I knew counting macros had worked before, so I decided to try it.

What does your life look like now?:

From the beginning, my mindset changed. I wasn’t given “cheat meals or days.” I was taught this is life and how to incorporate healthy choices into everyday life. I quickly realized that what I thought was living healthy wasn’t reality. We changed our date night routines from drinking/eating to doing activities that we enjoyed. We incorporated cooking new recipes and realized fun didn’t have to include overindulging. I finally learned how to balance. My exercise routine consists of running at speeds I never thought possible. I feel stronger than ever and am getting out there and enjoying hiking as one of my favorite past times.

Why do you think Stronger U worked so well for you compared to other programs or diets?:

The constant encouragement from my coach to look at things a bit differently made all the difference. We all go through times when we do well and then don’t do well with our choices. One day my coach told me, “You are worth it. You are worth making this a priority.” This is what I think about constantly. I now pick and choose where I want to indulge. I still participate in activities since I don’t have to indulge if there is a function. I make better decisions because I want to, not because I have to for an end game. There is no end game. This is life. I didn’t have to give up alcohol. I chose to change my relationship with alcohol since I feel it doesn’t fit in the same way it used to. I love that I was not told I couldn’t have this or that. I have made those choices myself by understanding my body and what works best for me.

What was something you regularly ate while on Stronger U that people wouldn’t expect you to eat on a diet?:

I eat whatever I want. I have had friends say, “What program are you doing because I don’t see you depriving yourself?” What they don’t see is me planning my day around what I want to enjoy and ensuring the full day is balanced and enjoyed.
