This week our Member Spotlight is shining brightly on Will Shearer. Check out his interview below!
What’s your name? (First and last names, pretty please)
Will Shearer
Tell us a little about you in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life that you want to share?
I was born outside Baltimore Maryland and have lived here almost my whole life, minus some years exploring the warmer climates of California and Florida. I am a husband and father of two youngins (Olivia 3 and Henry 1). I was a division I athlete playing lacrosse at Notre Dame and also played soccer through high school.
What led you to join Stronger U?
I knew that my nutrition was seriously lacking and knew little to nothing about what truly was good nutritional habits aside from knowing I wasn’t doing it right. I have never made it a priority in my life. After seeing a friend, Katie Loehr’s, results I became extremely interested and wanted to know more. After seeing that it wasn’t just women or serious athletes that had serious results I decided to take the plunge
What dieting experience have you had previous to Stronger U? Was there a reason you were or were not successful? Why did you stop?
None.
It’s clear Stronger U worked for you. Why do you think Stronger U worked so well when other programs or diets may have not?
I jumped in and it was somewhat overwhelming at first. But with the coach and community, it became easier extremely quickly. If you put in the effort it will work for you no matter your goals.
Can you give some insight into your eating habits BEFORE joining Stronger U?
I was on the road a lot and ate a lot of restaurant food, and drank a couple of times a week. Home-cooked meals were with a heavy emphasis on fresh ingredients but with no regard for the methods of cooking them (lots of fats and carbs) and huge portions.
Now that you’ve joined Stronger U, how have your eating habits changed?
Now I have my breakfast and lunches prepared every week on Sunday. They are still tasty and I don’t feel like I am missing anything. I drink far less and when I do I understand the consequences to my progress and adjust accordingly. When I cook at home the family still enjoys and I just had to change out some of the ingredients. When I go out I don’t eat the same way and understand that every meal out isn’t a party.
If you exercise or train for a sport, what does a typical week look like? Did Stronger U have any impact on your decision to start exercising or training for a sport?
Before I was not really doing anything for working out. When I started I was heavy on the cardio and ran 3-4 times a week. I did up to 12 miles and participated in a marathon relay. Before SU I couldn’t get through 2 miles of continuous running. After my cut, I transitioned to working in strength and completed a 12-week lifting cycle where I steadily improved. I am currently working on a schedule to do both cardio and lifting that works into my schedule
Has your change in body weight or composition improved other areas of your life? If so, explain what areas and how.
I have far more energy all around. I have more energy to chase after my kids and play with them.
Are there any tips or advice you’d give to new members of Stronger U to help them succeed early on?
The best advice early on is to commit to it and put in the work. There is a learning curve but once you get over the hump it becomes easy and you feel much better for doing it. Keeping it simple early on helped me and gave me the results and I can now have more “fun” with my food because of all that I have learned
If someone is thinking about joining Stronger U, what would you tell them?
Dive on in. You’ll be grateful for the rest of your life!
