This week our Stronger U Member Spotlight is focused on Gail Hashi, a Stronger U Superstar that is coached by Coach Tanner Baze.
What’s your name? (First and last names, pretty please)
Gail Hashi
Tell us a little about you in 5 sentences or less. Where are you from? Are you a parent? What are your hobbies? Anything unique about your life that you want to share?
I have lived in Hawaii all (almost) 62 years of my life. Been married for 36 years to a wonderful man & have been blessed with 2 adult children (boy & a girl) and a granddaughter with a grandson on the way in July. I love baking pies and photography.
What led you to join Stronger U?
A Facebook comment from a total stranger that mentioned Stronger U as the reason for their weight loss success. Never heard of SU before.
What dieting experience have you had previous to Stronger U? Was there a reason you were or were not successful? Why did you stop?
With Weight Watchers I also lost 30# but couldn’t keep it off because I wasn’t equipped with maintenance skills. I also tried Atkins and South Beach (missed my carbs), Jenny Craig (tasty but pricey) & Nutrisystem (tasteless 🤢 & pricey).
It’s clear Stronger U worked for you. Why do you think Stronger U worked so well when other programs or diets may have not?
SU gives me the freedom to work in the foods that I can’t give up, the individualized attention from my awesome coach Tanner Baze (who I swear sounds a lot like my Psychologist sometimes 😜), the 24/7 support of the SU Facebook community, the live Q & As from the coaches, the fact that this program works even if I never once hit 0-0-0 macros. NEVER!!! That perfection is NOT needed to be successful! 👍🏼🙋🏻♀️😊 And the totally honest, tell-it-like-it-is, fearless leader Mike Doehla!!!❤️❤️❤️
Can you give some insight on your eating habits BEFORE joining Stronger U?
I ate the same foods as I am eating now, but a greater percentage of carbs especially in the area of sugar-laden treats and much less protein. I have always loved fruits & vegetables.
Now that you’ve joined Stronger U, how have your eating habits changed?
I’ve learned that eating too much healthy food is unhealthy. My portions are smaller. I am learning to avoid trigger foods.
If you exercise or train for a sport, what does a typical week look like? Did Stronger U have any impact in your decision to start exercising or training for a sport?
I didn’t start exercising until about week 6 when I was on vacation. I started working out in the hotel gym & went hiking in the snow-laden Colorado mountains. I have become more active since then & typically do Zumba 1x, Body Combat 1-2x, personal training 1x per week & squeeze in yoga when I can. One of the best things about SU is that I can continue to lose weight/inches even when I get injured & can’t work out by honing in on my nutrition!
Has your change in body weight or composition improved other areas of your life? If so, explain what areas and how.
Yes, it’s given me the confidence that I can do or achieve anything in life when I tell myself that I can. My negative self-talk is less frequent and my emotional well-being has benefitted.
Are there any tips or advice you’d give to new members of Stronger U to help them succeed early on?
Listen to your coach; he really knows a lot more than you think. Weigh your food; don’t use measuring cups/spoons. When you slip up, pick yourself up & move forward, one meal at a time.
If someone is thinking about joining Stronger U, what would you tell them?
Just do it. You’re worth it!
